Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Monday that he will not comply with President Trump’s peace proposal, stating that they will not cede any territory to Russia. This will keep the unwinnable war going indefinitely, giving Zelensky an excuse to soak up more foreign aid that he can funnel to his corrupt cronies.
“Russia is insisting that we give up territories, but we don’t want to cede anything. We have no legal right to do so, under Ukrainian law, our constitution, and international law. And we don’t have any moral right either,” Zelensky said.
President Trump’s proposal called for Ukraine to give up the territory it controls in the Donbas region as Russia continues to steadily take land. President Trump said it would be better to save lives than to delay the inevitable.
“Eventually, that’s land that, over the next couple of months, might be gotten by Russia anyway,” Trump said last month. “So do you want to fight and lose another 50,000-60,000 people? Or do you want to do something now?”
Even though President Trump wants peace, Europe is staunchly behind Zelensky keeping the war going as long as possible. They want to send NATO forces to fight Russians and risk World War 3 in the process. However, President Trump is clearly growing tired of the nonsense in Ukraine, and even called Zelensky out for his anti-democratic policies of suspending elections.
“It’s been a long time. It hasn’t been doing particularly well. Yeah, I think it’s time. I think it’s an important time to hold an election. They’re using war not to hold an election, but I would think the Ukrainian people should have that choice. And maybe Zelensky would win. I don’t know who would win, but they haven’t had an election in a long time. You know, they talk about a democracy, but it gets to a point where it’s not a democracy anymore,” Trump said in an interview with Politico.
It is time to end this farce and cut off the criminal Zelensky from the foreign aid that sustains him. Zelensky will not allow peace so he must be forced to fight his war on his own.
