President Donald Trump has launched an aggressive campaign in South America, targeting narcotrafficking boats in Venezuela to send a strong message to socialist dictator Nicolas Maduro that his nefarious activity will not be tolerated.
This has caused some neoconservative members of the Republican Party to press President Trump for full-scale regime change war in Venezuela similar to the failures in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Rep. Maria Salazar of Florida argued during a recent appearance on Fox Business that the U.S. should go into Venezuela so multinational corporations can make immense oil profits.
“Venezuela, for those Americans who do not understand why we need to go in … Venezuela, for the American oil companies, will be a field day, because it will be more than a trillion dollars in economic activity,” Salazar said.
Additionally, Salazar claimed that Maduro is “giving uranium to Hamas, and to Iran, and to North Korea, and Nicaragua.” These claims seem similar to the propaganda about Saddam Hussein and Weapons of Mass Destruction that were floated in the lead up to the disastrous war in Iraq that cost Americans trillions of dollars and caused hundreds of thousands of needless deaths.
President Trump would be wise not to listen to the warmongers in the Republican Party as the public has no appetite for another war. There are many major problems within America that need to be solved, and the Radical Left in America poses a greater threat to the country than any foreign entity. This is what needs to be focused on, as well as ensuring better jobs and more affordable goods, to assure Republican success in the midterms.
