A Honduran national living in the country illegally now faces a string of serious felony charges after Louisiana authorities say he forced his way into a neighbor’s home and sexually assaulted her at gunpoint last week.
Irlando Giron, a 37-year-old illegal alien from Honduras, was taken into custody by the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office and charged with first-degree rape, aggravated assault with a firearm, home invasion, and possession of a stolen firearm, according to a report by John Binder of Breitbart News.
Investigators say Giron armed himself with a stolen firearm and entered the woman’s residence on February 6 before sexually assaulting her. Authorities later determined the weapon had been stolen from Texas. The victim was transported to a hospital for medical treatment following the attack. Officers located Giron at a separate residence on the same street and took him into custody without further incident.
Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard addressed the public following the arrest, characterizing the event as contained to this individual.
“This appears to be an isolated incident,” Ard stated.
The sheriff also took the opportunity to urge residents to take basic precautions to protect their homes and families.
“There was no forced entry found on scene. I want to remind you to secure your homes: lock doors, invest in a good lighting system, make sure any cameras are in working order,” Ard said. “The perpetrator in this case now sits behind bars. Join me in praying for the victim in this case.”
The arrest drew renewed attention to ongoing concerns about the presence of illegal immigrants in American communities at a time when the Trump administration has ramped up enforcement operations nationwide.
Cases like this one make clear why America needs an immigration system built on the rule of law, not on open borders policies that allow dangerous foreign nationals to live freely among citizens they go on to victimize. Protecting American communities from criminal illegal aliens is not a political talking point but a basic obligation of any government serious about national sovereignty and public safety.
Congress must act to secure the border, accelerate deportations, and ensure that those who enter this country illegally and commit crimes against Americans face swift and permanent removal.
