Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts is being ruthlessly attacked for offering a defense of free speech as a right-wing mob comes to cancel Tucker Carlson.
“We will always defend our friends against the slander of bad actors who serve someone else’s agenda. That includes Tucker Carlson, who remains, and as I have said before, always will be a close friend of the Heritage Foundation. The venomous coalition attacking him are sowing division. Their attempt to cancel him will fail,” Roberts said.
As a result of the fallout, former Heritage chief of staff Ryan Neuhaus was removed from his position before being forced to resign.
The New York Post obtained emails from Heritage Foundation donors where it was shown that the organization’s paymasters were enraged about Roberts’ defense of free speech.
“I’m disgusted by this and don’t understand how this premeditated and orchestrated response could come out of one of the biggest think tanks in the world,” one Heritage donor wrote.
Roberts reportedly admitted to making a mistake during a meeting on Wednesday, essentially admitting that standing up for free speech is a mistake according to the organization. That will not be good for Heritage’s prestige, credibility and support moving forward.
There is a clear split within the MAGA movement. There are those who want to preserve the status quo and use their wealth and prestige to purge the movement of heretics, and then there are the upstart rabble-rousers who genuinely want change in Washington D.C. and to put America first. Whoever wins this civil war will determine the trajectory of the country for generations to come.
