Emails released by the House Oversight Committee reveal that former New York Times Financial Reporter Landon Thomas Jr. warned Jeffrey Epstein in 2017 that journalist John Connolly was looking into his activities. John Connolly, who passed away in 2022, was a former NYPD detective. He co-authored the book “Filthy Rich: the Shocking True Story of Jeffrey Epstein — The Billionaire’s Sex Scandal” with James Patterson.
Thomas said to Epstein in an email on September 27, 2017, “He’s digging around again — not clear if it’s another book/or expanded paperback version. Was asking me all sorts of questions about why you hired Ken Starr. I told him I had no idea — I think he is doing some Trump-related digging too. Anyway, for what its worth…”
This was not the only interaction Thomas had with Epstein. In December 2015, Epstein suggested to Thomas that he look into Donald Trump’s finances. And in another email, he offered to show Thomas photos of Trump with women in bikinis.
“Would you like photos [sic] of donald and girls in bikinis in my kitchen” Epstein reportedly wrote.
“Yes!!!” replied Thomas, over an hour later.
Thomas’ hostility to President Trump is well documented, going back to 2016 when he commiserated with Epstein as Trump climbed in the polls.
“I am getting worried. Is he ever going to implode?” Thomas asked Epstein on Sept 16, 2016.
“too late,” Epstein replied. “ask again 30th.”
Epstein’s offer of a photo of Trump with women in bikinis in Epstein’s kitchen was in December 2015. And Epstein was also negative about Trump in a Feb 10, 2016 email exchange with Thomas. The fact that Epstein never sent the photos for Thomas to release strongly indicates they do not exist.
Thomas was a finance reporter for the New York Times from 2002 to 2019. He was fired by the New York Times “after editors discovered his failure to abide by our ethical standards”, according to a spokesman. This was because Thomas asked Epstein to donate $30,000 to a Harlem cultural center, which a source described as “a shocking lapse of journalistic standards.”
A New York Times reporter who was fired for violating journalistic ethics also tipped Epstein off to an investigation. This shows that the mainstream media is not to be trusted. So-called journalists should not use their position to help wealthy friends or assist sex traffickers. Those who hold our leaders accountable should be held to the highest standards of conduct.
