Groups on the left know full well that allowing the enhanced subsidies to expire as scheduled wouldn’t cause a catastrophe for most families. As the government shutdown winds on, Democrats continue to hold the federal government hostage because, they claim, “premiums will double” if Congress does not extend Covid-era enhanced Obamacare subsidies. I’ve debunked that topic in detail here and elsewhere, but to quickly summarize the argument: 1) The federal government will still pay on average 75-80 percent of enrollees’ premiums if the enhanced subsidies expire. 2) Nearly half of Exchange enrollees currently pay nothing in out-of-pocket premiums for benchmark coverage, which the Congressional Budget Office and others have concluded has led to…

Disgraced former FBI Director James Comey filed a motion on Monday to dismiss the charges of lying to Congress brought by District Attorney Lindsey Halligan in the Eastern District of Virginia. Comey, however, has retained yet another one of his former leak recipients as a defense attorney, raising the question: Is there anyone on Comey’s defense team that he wasn’t leaking to? According to a 2019 Office of Inspector General report, in May 2017, James Comey sent four confidential FBI memos to his personal lawyer Patrick Fitzgerald, along with instructions to share the documents with two other lawyers: Daniel Richman and David Kelley. Fitzgerald…
President Donald Trump escalated his trade war with Canada Saturday, announcing a 10% hike on tariffs after blasting Ontario’s anti-tariff ad campaign as “fraudulent” and accusing the US neighbor of misusing Ronald Reagan’s legacy. Canada had been “caught, red handed” using “selective audio and video” of Reagan’s 1987 radio address in an ad opposing tariffs, the president wrote on Truth Social, claiming the move was designed to sway an upcoming US Supreme Court case on his authority to issue the levies. “Because of their serious misrepresentation of the facts, and hostile act, I am increasing the Tariff on Canada by 10% over and above what they are paying now,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Ronald Reagan LOVED…
Reclusive billionaire Timothy Mellon, a frequent financial supporter of President Donald Trump, made the anonymous private donation of $130 million to the U.S. government to help pay troops while the government shutdown continues, according to two sources said to be familiar with the situation. The New York Times, reporting the development Saturday, said the two people spoke on the condition of anonymity because the donation had been made privately, but identified the donor as the banking heir and railroad magnate. Trump, when announcing the money on Thursday night, named the person only as a “patriot” and a friend, and on Friday…
Democrat Eleanor Holmes Norton, the nonvoting delegate for Washington, D.C., in Congress, allegedly was scammed out of thousands of dollars by people posing as a cleaning crew at her residence. The suspects entered Norton’s home on Thursday and accessed her credit card before someone put a stop to it, according to an internal police report. According to police, the suspects charged nearly $4,400 to her credit card. The police report states Norton, 88, has “the early stages of dementia” and that she has a caretaker with power of attorney. Norton has represented Washington, D.C., since 1991. Shortly after 3:30 p.m.…
New York City mayoral candidate and radical Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani tried to paint his Muslim aunt as a victim of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks due to her fear of backlash for wearing a hijab. Mamdani addressed reporters and the Muslim community while speaking outside the Islamic Cultural Center of The Bronx on Friday, the New York Post reported. He accused his opponents, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D), Curtis Sliwa (R), and Mayor Eric Adams (D) of stoking so-called “Islamophobia” and claimed his family were victims of anti-Muslim bias following the horrific terror attacks that shook the nation and the world. “In…
Florida Attorney Peter Ticktin has known Donald Trump personally since grade 10 of their high school days in 1961, when both attended New York Military Academy. Ticktin has publicly described Trump as a classmate and friend from that period and has often recounted their interactions as cadets. They have remained friends for over 60 years. Ticktin has actively pursued litigation and public advocacy alleging election fraud in the 2020 election. As an attorney, he represents numerous clients seeking federal pardons and many J6 defendants, whom he prefers to call patriots. I first met Ticktin at the Gateway Pundit Vindicated Conference…

Swiss officials said in Thursday’s update that under current trade conditions, global demand for Swiss goods and services is expected to rise “only modestly” in the coming quarters. “The current trade policy environment presents particular challenges for Switzerland,” they said. “The additional tariffs are placing a heavy burden on affected sectors and export-oriented companies, with significant ripple effects expected across the broader economy. Moreover, persistent uncertainty is also dampening economic activity.” The government also warned that most of America’s other trading partners had been granted lower tariff rates, placing Swiss exporters at a competitive disadvantage in the U.S. market. Zelensky came once again to Washington to speak with the president following Trump’s highly discussed call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday. Trump announced on Thursday that he and Putin will soon meet in Budapest, Hungary, to hammer out details on ending the war between Russia and Ukraine.
