A Republican Arizona state senator revealed Monday that the FBI’s criminal investigation into Maricopa County encompasses elections from 2020 through 2024, not merely the contested presidential race, according to Just the News.
“I do know that it covers 2020 information up to 2024, and 2022 probably is in the middle of that,” State Senator Mark Finchem told the Just the News television program. “So when we look at that as a bracket, almost nothing was changed from 2020 to 2024. So the systems are basically the same.”
Finchem, who previously ran for secretary of state, stated he believes the FBI served both a grand jury subpoena and a sealed search warrant outlining the evidence sought from the state Senate regarding elections in Arizona’s largest county. Just the News first reported the subpoena Sunday evening.
The senator’s remarks expanded upon a statement from Senate President Warren Peterson, who acknowledged earlier Monday that he surrendered 2020 election data to federal investigators under subpoena.
Finchem also challenged a social media post from former Maricopa County elections chief Steve Richer suggesting the FBI request was confined to 2020.
“Quite frankly, I think it would be irresponsible to say that 2024 is not part of the investigation,” Finchem stated. “You know, FBI investigations and grand juries have a tendency to give a little bit of latitude to the US attorney to go as far as they need to identify the players in a corrupt scheme.”
Finchem belongs to a group of Arizona legislators who have maintained for years that elections in Maricopa County suffered from serious irregularities. Richer has been among the most vocal election administrators pushing back against those claims, insisting they lack merit. He reiterated that position Monday on social media.
“For those happy people who haven’t thought about the 2020 election in a long time,” Richer wrote. “A reminder that… Maricopa County did a post-election hand-count audit… Multiple lawsuits, involving evidence, failed following the 2020 election… Trump’s own 2020 election law team said ‘we’re not alleging fraud.’… The Cyber Ninjas were discredited, admitted some of their own errors, and went bankrupt after their Arizona adventure.”
This federal investigation underscores the urgent necessity for robust election integrity measures across every American jurisdiction. Securing elections from fraud, preventing illegal aliens from casting ballots, and eliminating vulnerabilities that invite tampering must become national priorities. Only through comprehensive safeguards can citizens trust that their votes actually determine who governs them.
