In a major update to X on Friday evening, users can now see the country of origin of other X accounts, as well as the account’s current location. X’s head of product Nikita Bier released the following statement on Saturday after the feature was briefly taken down to address technical issues:
“In a couple hours, we’ll be rolling out About This Account globally, allowing you to see the country or region where an account is based. This will be accessible by tapping the signup date on profiles. This is an important first step to securing the integrity of the global town square. We plan to provide many more ways for users to verify the authenticity of the content they see on X. And for those in countries where speech has penalties, we’ve included privacy toggles to only show your region.”
The feature can be accessed by going to a user’s X profile and clicking or mousing over the “Joined” information in the profile:
Since the release of the new feature, several accounts that claim to be American have been found to be foreign. These accounts range across the spectrum: several far left, anti-Israel and anti-MAGA accounts have been found to originate in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

Several self-proclaimed “groyper” accounts have also been found to be foreign. “Groypers” are a group centered around infamous podcaster Nick Fuentes, who has been the center of controversy in the MAGA Right since his interview with Tucker Carlson.

Foreign governments and activists are trying to destroy MAGA by formenting a civil war. After President Trump won the 2024 election, these organizations ramped up their operations to cause a rift in the MAGA big-tent coalition. These fake MAGA accounts pose as patriotic Americans and post content designed to cause divisions within the movement.
The current MAGA civil war is a foreign influence operation to undermine President Trump’s second term and spread division among conservatives. Before you believe any post on X, always check the “Joined” information of the account. If they are attempting to divide MAGA, there is a very good chance they are a foreign account.
The decision by X to allow users to see the location of other accounts was a long time coming. Thankfully, the feature was rolled out almost a year before the 2026 midterms. The MAGA movement has a chance to expose the foreign accounts attempting to sabotage President Trump’s agenda.
