15 individuals now face federal charges after authorities uncovered a benefits fraud operation that allegedly extracted $1.4 million from food assistance, healthcare, disability, and unemployment programs, with 11 of the defendants residing in the country illegally, Breitbart reported.
Federal officials gathered in Boston Thursday to detail the accusations against each suspect. Heriberto Rodriguez of Framingham stands accused of passport fraud, SNAP fraud, and aggravated identity theft in connection with $546,463 in combined losses affecting MassHealth, Social Security, HUD, and SNAP programs. Mirian Chalas, a 33-year-old American citizen residing in Salem, New Hampshire, confronts charges linked to $266,000 in MassHealth fraud, $25,000 in Social Security Disability fraud, and $12,000 in SNAP fraud.
Santo Escolastico Cuello, a Dominican national aged 56 who lives illegally in Worcester, stands accused in relation to $162,180 in MassHealth fraud. Mario Baez Romero, a 45-year-old Dominican national residing unlawfully in Somerville, faces accusations tied to $26,942 in SNAP fraud and $48,785 in MassHealth fraud. Law enforcement reportedly intercepted Baez Romero during a boat interdiction near Key Biscayne, Florida this past May.
Other defendants include several people identified only as “John Doe” who authorities believe entered the country illegally, plus additional Dominican nationals facing assorted charges involving identity theft, SNAP fraud, and MassHealth fraud. Mitul Patel, a 40-year-old Indian national, faces conspiracy allegations for purportedly orchestrating a fictitious armed robbery at a convenience store so that supposed “victims” could fraudulently obtain U Visas intended for survivors of violent crimes.
United States Attorney Leah Foley signaled that prosecutors are just getting started. “There isn’t any place else in the world where you can go and be handed free food, free housing, free healthcare and free monthly checks, while being in the country illegally,” Foley declared. “However, it appears that you can come to Massachusetts and steal as many benefits as you want without fear and without any accountability. This is all ending on my watch. Beginning today, we will be announcing benefit fraud charges on a rolling basis.”
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin stated that every illegal alien convicted in this case will be deported upon completing their prison sentence.
Cases like this demonstrate exactly why America must comprehensively restrict both legal and illegal immigration until meaningful reforms prioritize citizens and eliminate program exploitation. So long as weak borders and inadequate enforcement allow millions to enter without proper screening, fraudulent operations like this Massachusetts ring will keep siphoning resources away from Americans in need. Nothing short of a full immigration moratorium combined with vigorous interior enforcement will protect taxpayer funded benefits and put American citizens where they belong at the front of the line.
