President Donald Trump’s agenda remains on firm political ground heading into the midterm elections, according to a new McLaughlin & Associates survey conducted for Tea Party Patriots Citizens Action, offering fresh evidence that critics who insist his movement is divided may be misreading the electorate.
The survey, first reviewed by Breitbart News, found majority support for several key elements of Trump’s governing agenda, including election integrity, immigration enforcement, government fraud prevention, national security and proposed security upgrades to the White House complex. For Trump allies, the numbers suggest that establishment media outlets and Democratic detractors have their heads in the sand when it comes to the durability of the president’s coalition.
One of the clearest findings involved Trump’s push for a secure White House ballroom and related underground additions. Despite criticism from opponents, 59 percent of respondents said Congress has an obligation to fund the project. Jenny Beth Martin, chair of Tea Party Patriots Action, said Trump is “on strong ground politically” on the issue, noting that the poll was taken before the most recent security incident near the White House.
The survey also showed broad support for the SAVE America Act, which would require proof of citizenship to register to vote and photo identification when voting. A majority, 56 percent, said senators should continue working to pass the legislation before the midterms. Meanwhile, 82 percent agreed that only U.S. citizens should be allowed to vote in elections for president, senators and representatives.
Immigration remains another area where the poll suggests Trump’s agenda is aligned with many voters. Fifty-eight percent said birthright citizenship should apply only to children born to U.S. citizens or people legally in the country on a permanent basis. Nearly three-quarters agreed that legal immigrants who choose to make America their home should learn English, embrace American traditions and values, and become part of the country.
The strongest numbers came on government waste and fraud. Eighty-one percent said stopping waste, fraud and corruption should be a top priority, while 83 percent said Congress should require a permanent system to detect and prevent fraud before taxpayer money is spent. Seventy percent said cutting government fraud is the most direct path to lowering prices.
Martin said the findings show Trump’s political instincts are “dead on,” especially after his announcement that Vice President JD Vance would lead an anti-fraud task force.
The poll also found 71 percent support for preventing Iran from blocking, attacking, mining or extorting ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
Economic issues remain voters’ top concern, including inflation, the cost of living, jobs, taxes and interest rates. The survey was conducted May 12-18 among 1,000 general election voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
Trump has dismissed claims of MAGA division, saying the movement is “the strongest it’s ever been.”
