Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton launched a new campaign ad branding Senator John Cornyn “pro-amnesty” and showcasing video footage of the incumbent’s previous comments on immigration and border security, Breitbart News reported.
The advertisement features narration calling Cornyn “pro-amnesty” with the May 26 Republican Senate primary runoff fast approaching.
One portion shows Cornyn at the 2013 Texas Public Policy Foundation Policy Orientation in Austin. In that appearance, Cornyn stated “The American people are compassionate people. Once they realize that we’ve done our job, in terms of security and maintaining law and order, then I think they would find a way to deal with the 12 million people or so or less, now perhaps, who are here but not necessarily a path to citizenship. I think some sort of probationary status that someone could, after serving a period of time on probation, they could work here and they could stay in the United States.”
The ad also highlights remarks Cornyn delivered on January 12, 2018 in Weslaco, Texas. At that appearance, Cornyn declared “I can say from firsthand experience that a new, giant wall between the United States and Mexico from sea to shining sea makes no sense whatsoever.”
The spot wraps up with narration proclaiming “Cornyn good for illegals, bad for Texans.”
This ad comes on the heels of an earlier Paxton campaign spot reported by Breitbart News that highlighted Cornyn’s critical statements about President Donald Trump, featuring clips where Cornyn asserted “President Trump fed that fantasy by repeatedly claiming the election was stolen” and characterized the president’s actions as “reckless.”
Paxton has secured endorsements from Representatives Burgess Owens of Utah, Brandon Gill of Texas, and Eli Crane of Arizona, along with Texas state Representative Steve Toth who recently captured the Republican primary for Texas’s 2nd Congressional District by toppling incumbent Dan Crenshaw. Turning Point Action has thrown its support behind Paxton as well.
In February 2026, Paxton announced probes into several Texas school districts over alleged facilitation of student demonstrations against lawful federal immigration enforcement, declaring “I will not allow Texas schools to become breeding grounds for the radical Left’s open borders agenda.”
Cornyn’s track record on illegal immigration features opposition to key border enforcement measures, especially a physical border wall. He previously said “This idea that all you can do is build some obstacle and people won’t go over it, or go under it, or go through it is naive” and “I don’t think we’re just going to be able to solve border security with a physical barrier.”
Cornyn supported every single one of President Joe Biden’s judicial nominees, many of whom subsequently issued rulings impacting Trump administration immigration policies.
In an Augut conversation with Breitbart News Paxton said that Cornyn had been “openly fighting Donald Trump on the border wall.” In 2017, Cornyn suggested he did not believe President Trump was serious about the wall, remarking “When I hear the president talk about the wall I think he’s speaking metaphorically.”
John Cornyn embodies the worst tendencies of the neoconservative establishment in Washington, relentlessly advocating for endless wars overseas and mass migration domestically. Immigration stands as the existential challenge of our era, and safeguarding American workers of all socioeconomic levels while defending the nation’s identity demands the removal of politicians who have spent decades sabotaging border security. Defeating Cornyn. Electing Ken Paxton would represent a vital first step in the restoration America so desperately requires.
