When observing the conservative media landscape there are countless rivalries and disputes between influencers, but few have risen to the heat of the feud last year between the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, and now-infamous Epstein associate Steve Bannon of the ‘War Room’ podcast.
Bannon and Musk had what some would label an ‘internet war’ last year after Musk began to publicly call for the release of the Epstein files, which have since been released by the Trump Administration. The files reveal the darkest side of American politics, implicating the likes of Democrat megadonors such as Reid Hoffman, Microsoft Founder Bill Gates, and Leslie Wexner in Epstein’s sex-trafficking operation.
Bannon objected to the release of the files, desperately flinging any attack he could at Musk. The podcast host even gave an interview to the New York Times in which he lied about Musk’s immigration status. Bannon told the Times, “They should initiate a formal investigation of his immigration status, because I am of the strong belief that he is an illegal alien, and he should be deported from the country immediately.”
In addition to levying these false accusations, Bannon told additional lies, adding a false statement about Musk’s ‘illegal drug use,’ for which there is no record, and claiming that he was ‘advising the President’ to ‘cancel’ Musk’s many federal contracts.
For those without context, Bannon’s attacks seemed in-line with his public support of President Donald Trump, but months later, since the files have been released, we now know the true reason Bannon so emphatically lied about Musk over the Epstein files.
Bannon’s Prolific Relationship With Sex-Trafficker Jeffery Epstein Is Revealed, Vindicating Elon Musk.

Also implicated in the Epstein files, perhaps in the worst way of anybody mentioned within the release is Steve Bannon, host of the ‘War Room.’ Bannon and Epstein exchanged some 1,974 emails in the days leading up to Epstein’s arrest on July 6th, 2019, more than nearly anybody mentioned.
Bannon assisted Epstein in creating a 15-hour documentary in which Bannon asked the sex-trafficker questions in an attempt to rehabilitate his image. Bannon has been sitting on this footage since it was captured in 2018, refusing to release it on his own.
Portions of the interview were released within the DOJ files, and are available for viewing online. See how Bannon fawns over Epstein throughout the production.
With the release of the Epstein files now behind us, the motivation behind Bannon’s lame attacks on Musk become clear. Bannon wasn’t ‘protecting Trump.’ He was covering his own behind.

Bannon, who through the files has been revealed to have traveled the world with Epstein, coaching him on media strategy, and even calling him a ‘god’ in their private, near daily text and email communications, knew that the release of these files would be the end of his public life.
That’s why when Elon Musk bridged the topic of releasing the Epstein files in a very public fashion, Bannon attacked.
In early June of 2025 Bannon and his cohorts on a live episode of the War Room podcast echoed his statements in the New York Times calling for Musk to be ‘deported,’ wrongfully claiming that the billionaire is ‘not a legal immigrant.’

Bannon didn’t stop there. The Epstein associate went even further, claiming that the Trump Administration should go as far as to ‘seize’ Musk’s assets within Space-X and Tesla over the billionaire’s calls to release the Epstein Files.
Cornered by the prospect of facing justice and public scrutiny over his relationship with a billionaire sex-trafficker, Bannon lashed out at Musk. His attacks weren’t based in truth, but instead in a self-preservatory desperation.
Only now with the full release of the Epstein files can we understand the extent of Bannon’s relationship with Epstein, and how he betrayed President Donald Trump for that relationship in many instances.
Bannon Double Crosses Trump For Epstein, Text and Email Communications Reveal
It has also been revealed through the Epstein files that Bannon, who served as a Chief Strategist in the first Trump Administration, used his connection to Epstein in order to leak classified secrets to the mainstream media.
Much like he used the New York Times to attack Musk, Bannon used his position in the first Trump White House to ingratiate himself with the same left-wing media that he has long attacked on his podcast, and throughout his career.
In one message released in the files, Bannon as far as to call for President Donald Trump to be removed from office for being ‘borderline.’ See that text exchange between Bannon and Epstein below,

Not only did Bannon plot to remove President Donald Trump from office with Epstein, but he also gossiped about the Russian Collusion hoax, which plagued the first Trump Administration with costly investigations that yielded zero evidence of wrongdoing.
It’s worth noting that Bannon famously cooperated with Robert Mueller’s investigation, giving interviews to prosecutors and telling author Michael Wolff in his 2018 book ‘Fire and Fury’ that a meeting Trump was accused of holding with Russian officials during the 2016 Trump campaign, a meeting that never actually happened, was ‘treasonous.’
Bannon even texted Epstein towards the end of their communications, in July of 2019, suggesting that they use Wolff to rehabilitate Epstein’s public image with the documentary Bannon was tasked with creating. In one message, Bannon writes, “Should we use Michael Wolff?”
Just after being fired from the Trump Administration, Bannon met with Wolff and Epstein in London, a meeting he was reportedly anxious about due to ‘poor optics.’ This was in 2017, and represented the inception of Epstein and Bannon’s relationship.
Why was Steve Bannon working with anti-Trump author Michael Wolff to arrange a meeting with billionaire sex-trafficker Epstein just after leaving the White House?
When examining Bannon’s history of leaking, lying, and scandal, you can only assume that he was being returned a favor for all he did to undermine the Trump Administration while serving in the White House.
