As Breitbart News notes, the measure arrives after Trump v. Barbara, the 5 to 4 decision holding that denying birthright citizenship to the children of illegal aliens and foreign tourists would run afoul of the 14th Amendment.

As Breitbart News notes, the measure arrives after Trump v. Barbara, the 5 to 4 decision holding that denying birthright citizenship to the children of illegal aliens and foreign tourists would run afoul of the 14th Amendment.
"Following the Supreme Court's decision in Trump v. Barbara, Congress must step up to the plate to protect the integrity of American citizenship," Blackburn told Breitbart News.
A half dozen Republicans have thrown their support behind the effort, among them Ted Budd of North Carolina, John Cornyn of Texas, Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming, Tim Sheehy of Montana, Jim Banks of Indiana, and Rick Scott of Florida.
Under her bill, the Immigration and Nationality Act would be amended so that coming to the country to give birth would no longer make a foreign national eligible for a temporary visa. The measure would likewise turn birth tourism into a deportable offense.
"I'm grateful to my Republican colleagues for joining me in reintroducing the Ban Birth Tourism Act to make it crystal clear that any alien seeking to come to our country to engage in birth tourism is both inadmissible and deportable under the Immigration & Nationality Act," Blackburn said.
Each year, about 33,000 children receive automatic citizenship for no reason other than that their parents showed up on a short term visa, often a tourist one. After those children reach 21, they are able to sponsor their parents for green cards.
The practice is entrenched nationwide, running from Turkish nationals in New York City and Chinese nationals in California through Russian families in Florida, Middle Eastern visitors in Illinois, and Mexican nationals in Texas.
Ending birth tourism is a worthwhile opening move, yet it remains just that. An America First approach calls for a clear reckoning with who comes into this country and for what purpose, which means matching this crackdown with a wider rollback of immigration, both legal and illegal, so that American citizenship truly benefits Americans first.
